Mahmood Abdullah Al Aweini is a senior executive with
20 years’ experience in finance and investments as well
as in business development and forming corporate
strategies for large and complex organizations. He is
leading the National Program for Fiscal Sustainability
and Financial Sector Development (Estidamah), which
has been launched by Ministry of Finance upon the
directive of His Majesty the Sultan of Oman for duration
of three (3) years, effective from 1st January 2023. The
aim of this program is to support the economic and
investment growth to enable Oman to achieve its Vision
2040. Before joining the program, Al Aweini was
procurement advisor for projects organizations of Middle
East Finance in BP Exploration Ltd. He also acted as
regional director (Middle East) finance. Moreover, he
held several other management roles at the company in
various teams, including material management &
distribution, in-country value and planning and
performance. Prior to BP Exploration Ltd., he was
general manager at Rawasi Oman Investment looking
after the investment opportunities through mergers &
acquisitions within the GCC. Earlier than that, he was
head of billing and revenue in Oman International
Container Terminal (Hutchison Ports Sohar). At the
beginning of his career, Al Aweini was financial analyst,
then he became a head of trading & surveillance
operations in Muscat Securities Market. He is an MBA
holder, and he completed his bachelor’s degree in
finance in 2003 from Sultan Qaboos University.
