Senior Environmental Advisor within the EBRD Environment and Sustainability Department (ESD). He is the sector co-ordinator for Power Projects and Heavy industry and focal point for ESG and EBRD Performance Requirement 3 (PR3) – including Best Available Techniques (BAT). As part of the Bank’s mandate, Robert is involved in project appraisals (due diligence and assessment), mainly in the power and industrial sectors and sector lead he has overall sector oversight and providing guidance to specialists in the sector.

 

Robert is a Polish national with extensive experience of environmental issues in industry and power sector in Bank’s Countries of Operation. This included work on some of the largest privatization due diligence assessments in Central and Eastern Europe as well as project financed infrastructure projects in the region. He has worked on developing the Responsible Steel standard and with the WBC SCI (Sustainable Cement Initiative) on guidance for ESIA and biodiversity management plans. He holds a degree from Kings College London and an MSc from Imperial College London (Environmental Technology). Prior to joining the EBRD in 2004, he was a Director and Head of the Environment Division of Atkins Europe based in Warsaw, one of the largest engineering consultancies in Europe at the time. In this role Robert managed a team of 15 professionals located in two offices (Warsaw and Silesia) and worked on environmental and social issues in Eastern European.

 

Robert is an active member of IEMA (UK Institute of Environmental Management), member of RICS and member of the United Nations Convention on Migratory Species Energy Task Force (UN CMS EFT) – among others developing post-monitoring guidance for the wind sector jointly with IFC and KfW. He is an sherpa for the EBRD on the EC platform for sustainable finance on the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosure (TNFD). For the past 4 years, Robert has been a juror for the Polish Foundation for Responsible Business (FoB) in Poland and Green Frog in CEE (co-ordinated by Deloitte) with the aim of selecting best annual integrated and CSR/Sustainability disclosure reports from listed companies in the region. He is currently working with Warsaw Stock Exchange on developing ESG reporting and disclosure guidelines. He has been an elected chairperson of the EBRD Staff Council for the past 7 years representing staff  on social, labour and welfare issues.
